Hey babes! hope all is well as you can already see by the title this post is completly dedicated to my current hair regiment & favorites. I've gotten a lot of questions on how I've managed to get my hair to grow or look so healthy and it's so funny because granted I do see some improvement in my hair over the years (I've definitley been through the trenches with this mane of mine) I just feel like I still have a long way to go lol. But none the less because of the request I've gotten for this I'm going to share everything I've grown to love using on my hair from root to tip and also share the process of how I acheive a silky press along the way!
So I'm sure you already know everybody has diffrent textured hair and its very possible to have more than one hair texture on your head. My hair is 3c in the front and 4a in the back (hence the back being so much shorter in the picture darn you shrinkage!) I think one of the most important things in repairing and growing you hair is keeping your scalp clean. I like to wash my hair once every week and half or so depending on how oily it gets. Now that may be too long for some people but it honestly depends on your hair type and how you like to style it. Once I've pressed out my hair it takes a little longer for my hair to retain oils because the coils from my natural texture are not there to catch them as much so I dont need to wash as much. But some of my natural babes who dont press their hair may need to wash a little more often. Regardless of what you do with you hair though one thing I've learned is to stay far far away from SULFATE its a chemical in most shampoos that completley strip your hair of the oil it needs it stay healthy and will eventually make you hair brittle and break off (true story lol)
Products listed from left to right: Organix teatree mint shampoo, Organix coconut milk (with egg whites) conditioner
The shampoo I currently use is Organix. I am currently in the market for something a little more hair friendly because I do see a couple of ingredients that I question (if you have any reccomendations comment below!) but I've been using it for a while and it shows the best results on my hair compared to a lot of other shampoos I've used in the past so I definitley recommend trying this brand out!
The liquid magic known as coconut oil if you dont have this in your life I'm begging you please get some! my hair literally feels like butter after using it every time.
my "stretching method", usually people just braid there hair in 2-4 cornrows to dry over night but sadly I can't braid so I'll just stick with looking 12 years old forever lol
After I wash/condition my hair I comb out my damp hair ,apply coconut oil and use my own variation of the "stretching method". The strecthing method isn't only something you do when your about to press your hair it's really helpul for any style you're trying to achieve and it makes your detangling process so much easier. Using this method has always helped me make sure I put back any of the moisture I might have taken out during the wash and letting it dry overnight helps retain all that moisture and saves you from having to use a blow dryer because the less heat you use the better. Don't forget to put on your satin scarf/bonnet before bed as well!
After I apply the coconut oil I like to rub this little concoction I made (I call it hair crack lol) onto my edges and ends to ensure hair growth and anti-breakage. All it's made of is equal parts of blue magic, cocnut oil, tea tree oil, and castor oil mixed into a thick gel like consitency (shown below). I like to apply this before I wrap my hair at night I use blue magic because the other oils can be really heavy/thick on there own if grease isn't your style I reccomend hair lotion or a leave-in conditioner.
hair crack
Now the Fun part! (not really lol) youre hair should be completley dry the next morning and now all you need to do is press it out! Straightener is my tool of choice I got mine from Wal-Mart, it's a Andis Ceramic 1" flat iron (click brand name for link) and for about $20 it works amazing!! Also for any parts of my hair that didn't get enough coconut oil I'll spary some Organix argan oil it's lightweight but still provides that moisture my hair loves lol.
The rest is pretty self explanitory, just straighten your hair till your heart is full!! I like to do really small sections within the six sections I made sounds confusing but it helps me make sure everything is consistent. Like I said before I do admit heat is not the best for your hair especially if your'e on the path to healing/growing it so I dont reccomend using heat every day honestly not even every week. If you wrap your hair every night (with a saitn scarf of course) you'll be able to make your press last up to two weeks!
And walah!! Silky smooth
So there it is all my hair tips and secrets!! I really do hope this post was helpful to somebody out there struggling because belive me babes I understand!! I do have more hair related tips and tricks but I didn't want this post to be a mile long so if you have any questions at all don't hesitate to comment below and like always till next time!! <3 YOU
