Hey babes! long time no blog post! Sorry for the delay but I'm finally getting into the groove of things again and I'm back with one of my favorite topics, skin care. Finding the right skin care regiment can be kind of difficult and sometimes even intimidating with the influx of all the new cosmetic/skin care companies coming out every day but have no fear!! I'm not a professional or anything but I have been around the block a few times with this skin of mine and I think I found some of the perfect products for people who are just starting to venture out into the skin care world. And who knows they might even become your everyday staples in your regiment like they did for me :)
First things First you have to know your skin type a lot of people dive into products without really knowing if it will benefit their skins specific needs or make them worse. Learning your skin type isn't difficult at all it's honestly all about noticing how oily or dry your skin gets throughout the day. So if you notice that your whole face generally remains shiny all day then you have "oily skin" if you notice that you see shine mainly in the "T-zone" area (forehead, nose and chin.) and hardly anywhere else you have "combination skin" and if you don't notice any shine at all throughout the day than you have "normal/dry skin". I personally have combination skin so some of the products I use are for all skin types (YAY!!) and some I use are specifically made for my skin type BUT the company's that I'll be listing have products for ALL skin types that I've personally seen work so I would still check them out!!
Products listed from left to right: Cetaphil daily facial cleanser, Freeman facial peel off mask, St.Ives apricot scrub, Pond's dark spot correcting cream, Pierre's detoxifying facial mask, Queen Helene mint julep mask.
My skin care regiment includes Cleansing, exfoliation (3-4 times a week), moisturizing and a weekly face mask of choice about as simple as it gets honestly. I also know the magic of toning BUT have yet to find one that doesn't irritate/dry out my skin ( so if anybody has any suggestions I would LOVE to know in the comments below!!).
- Cleansing

I have been using This cleanser for literally years and honestly I don't see myself stopping anytime soon! Its gentle enough for all skin types and every day use. Most cleansers I've used dry my skin completely out especially around my mouth/chin area but this leaves my skin feeling quenched every time no matter how much I use it and it also gives your skin a super healthy glow almost as if you hade 20 hours of sleep lol
- Exfoliation

This is The Holy Grail of all deep exfoliates!! having a super oily T-zone generally makes me more prone to pimples and my worst enemy black heads (freaking gross) and this really helps just clear out the gunk from my pores (a God sent for combo skin). I don't like to use this bad boy every day only because deep exfoliates can be a little to intense and make your skin sensitive if not used wisely but when I say it makes my face as smooth as a baby's bare ass I mean it!! lol And the really cool thing about St.Ives is that they make different degrees of exfoliates so if deep is a little to harsh and gritty for your skin they also have gentle and moderate formula's so I would definitely try them out!!
- Moisturizing

Pond's hands down has one of the thickest creamiest formula's I've ever used like seriously NOTHING penetrates my skin the way this does and the best part? All skin types can indulge in this creamy goodness! The one I use is specifically meant to correct dark spots/acne scars in 2-4 weeks (which it totally does I swear by it) while giving you that full moisture ,Two birds one stone what's not to love? And if color correcting isn't for you they also have just a regular hydrating formula which works just as good and is just as worth the purchase!
- Face Mask
Face mask are like little mini makeovers in a bottle they just bring life and vitality back to your skin and clear so many toxins that we simply cant reach by ourselves. With that being said you literally can find a face mask for ANYTHING in almost every kind of variation. From mud to serums the face mask world won't leave you disappointed. Personally I have always been a mud fan because I love the tight feeling my face gets when it dries, makes me feel like the mask is literally pulling out the toxins ( I know I'm weird) lol but I also have a peel off alternative (also amazing for pulling out those toxins and clearing the pores) just in case somebody doesn't want to cover their face in mud I understand haha

This mask is perfect for someone who wants to brighten their skin but still focus on eliminating acne. This formula helps dry up acne rinse away black heads and shrink pores (talk about a triple threat) this mask is definitely gentle so I recommend for all skin types and newbies to the mud game as well. And even if you aren't acne prone this mask also relaxes tired muscles and eases tension lines on the face and neck so its really a win-win situation here.

Last but not least this peel of mask is the most gentle of the three. I'll usually use this one just on my T-zone after a regular mud mask to remove the rest of those stubborn black heads that got left behind but I also recommend using it full face if your new to the mask game but still want overall gentle extraction of the toxins on your face. It has aloe and cucumber extract so it's super soothing and wont dry you out so it's perfect for most skin types.
And that's it!! My current skin care routine, I hope with the advice I could give and some of these products you can find your own way on this path of life we call skin care lol I'd love to hear some of your guys holy grail products and suggestions on what I should start using next? leave a comment below! or hashtag #astoldbygen on Twitter/Instagram. talk to ya soon babes
